CHAPTER 1
THE SOFT SOUND WOKE UP JADE FROM HER DREAMS; A WALL WATERFALL WHERE WATER WAS FLOWING DOWN THE WALL TO A SMALL BASIN AT THE BOTTOM, TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE TOP BY A SMALL FILTER & PUMP; SHE LOVED THIS ITEM SHE PICKED FOR HER QUARTERS; IT WAS RUNNING THE WHOLE DAY SHE WAS INSIDE HER SMALL HOME AND SET TO START AT THE TIME TO WAKE UP AS AN ALARM; SOMETIMES IF SHE COULDN’T SLEEP, SHE WOULD HAVE IT RUNNING DURING THE NIGHT TOO.
SHE CAME OUT OF HER ONE PLACE COT BED AND TOOK HER WHITE FLEECE BATHROBE, WITH LOVELY PINK AND YELLOW FLOWERS ON FAUX-SILK ON THE OUTER SIDE; SHE ALSO LOVED THIS ITEM SHE HAD PICKED HERSELF; HER CAT OPAL, WAS LOOKING AT HER , WHILE ITTING BY THE BASIN, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FOUNTAIN, WHERE SMALL KOY FISHES WHERE SWIMMING AND ONE SHRIMP; SHE ADDED A COVER AT NIGHT IN CASE HE WOULD GET THE FANCY TO TRY TO CATCH THEM…
“HI OPAL “ SHE SAID TO HIM “HOW ARE OUR LITTLE FRIENDS HERE THIS MORNING? ‘’ SHE ASKED AS SHE WAS LOOKING TAKING THE COVER OF THE BASIN OFF TO SEE HER WATER PETS … “HI ! ‘’ SHE SAID TO THEM AS SHE PUTTED ONE FINGER IN THE WATER TO SWIRL AROUND THEM ; HER SHRIMP DISAPEARED IMMEDIATELY UNDER HER ROCK AND HER 2 KOY FISHES WENT AROUND AND AROUND SWIMMING FASTER AND FASTER; OPAL WAS OBSERVING STILL SCARED TO INTERRUPT IF HE MOVED AND SENSED HIM SINCE HE WAS A CAT ; BUT HE WAS RESISTING THE URGE FROZEN IN PLACE, OBSERVING HIS MOM AND THEM IN THE BASIN; SHE STARTED TO GIGGLE AS SHE ALMOST TOUCHED ONE OF THEM; THE WHITE ONE WITH A RED DOT ON HIS HEAD; THIS WAS YIN AND THE OTHER ALL RED WITH A WHITE DOT ON HIS HEAD WAS YANG.
HER SHRIMP SHOWED HER HEAD FOR A SECOND AND WENT BACK UNDER THE ROCK AS FAST AS A SECOND AND DID THIS FEW TIMES ; JADE NOW LAUGH PETTING OPAL; IT SEEMED THAT THEY WERE MAKING A GAME OF TAG TO AMUSE HER FROM THEIR LITTLE WORLD …
‘’HI, YIN, YANG OPAL AND QUARTZ !” SHE HAD NAMED HER KOY FISH LIKE THIS BECAUSE THEY WERE OPPOSITE COLOR, AND QUARTZ BECAUSE SHE WAS ALMOST TRANSPARENT LIKE A QUARTZ AND OPAL BECAUSE HE WAS A ORNAGY COLOR CAT ALMOST THE SAME AS A FIRE OPAL GENSTONE . OPAL STARTED TO PURR AND LEFT HIS PLACE TO RUN TO HIS BOWL AND ASK FOR HIS FOOD SITTING MEWLING SOFTLY TO SHOW HER AND SAY HIS BOWL WAS EMPTY.
‘’ YOU ATE EVERYTHING … ‘’ SHE SAID , AND TAKING A BAG FROM THE FRIG WITH HIS FOOD, AND SCOOPED ONE SCOOP FOR HIM AFTER WASHING HIS BOWL FIRST; THEN SHE BOILED SOME WATER FOR HER COFFEE, AND WHILE IT BOILED, SHE WENT TO ADD A LITTLE BIT OF FOOD TO THE BASIN FOR HER FISHES.
SHE OPENED THE CURTAINA LITTLE AND IT WAS STILL DARK OUTSIDE, SHE COULD HEAR THE WIND AND SEE SOME FLURRY PASSING BY; THE LIGHTS WERE ON OUTSIDE THOUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING AND TOWERS, AS USUAL; SHE LOOKED AT THE WINDOWS ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING FACING HERS ACROSS THE INTERIOR COURT; SOME LIGHT WERE ON FROM AROUND THE CLOSED CURTAINS; OTHERS WERE AWAKE TOO .
SHE MADE HER COFFEE, AND PLACED AN EGG & SPINACH OMELET CAKE ON THE MINI OVEN OF HER KITCHENETTE; AND WENT TO SIT AT HER DINING TABLE; A SMALL BISTRO TABLE WITH AVAILABLE TWO EXTRA FOLDABLE CHAIRS AND A FOLDABLE TABLE FOR FOOD DISH IF HER DAUGHTER AMETHYST AND HER HUSBAND HANS CAME OVER FOR A MEAL OR A BOARD GAME.
HER QUARTERS WERE SMALL AS ALL WERE FOR A SINGLE PERSON, AN OPEN CONCEPT WHERE THE KITCHENETTE AND SLEEPING AND DINING AND WORKING AREAS WERE ALL OPEN IN ONE ROOM, WITH A SEPARATE FULL BATHROOM, WITH A TUB AND SHOWER AND A DRYING CLOTHES RACK FOR LAUNDRY; THIS WAS PART OF THE QUARTERS AS ENCOURAGED FOR SAVING ON FACILITY WATER AND TRAFFIC TO GO AND BACK WITH THE COTHES, THIS WAS THE CLOTHES WERE DRAINING WITHIN THE TUB FIRST ON A MAT AND STOOL SO NO SPINNING TO DRAIN THE CLOTHES, AND THEN DRYING ON THE RACK WITH THE HEATING ALREADY USED IN THE BATHROOM SO SAVING POWER AGAIN; EVERYONE WAS DOING SO, AS IT WAS ALREADY DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO MAKE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH HEAT AND WATER FROM THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE AT -400C AND ALL WATER FROZEN HARD …
THERE WAS ALSO ONE WINDOW; SHE LIKED THIS, SOME QUARTERS DIDN’T HAD THEM AND ONLY A SCREEN TO HAVE THE SCENERY YOU WISHED AND ALSO BETTER FOR HEAT; BUT SINCE SHE WAS WARM ALL THE TIME AND LIKED ALL HER EXTRA FLUFFY LAYERS OF FLEECE, SHE ENJOYED IT ; AND IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE KEEPING THE WARMTH INSIDE WITH THICK MATERIAL SEE THROUGH LIKE GLASS BUT STRONGER TO THIS COLD AND TO WIND AND SHADED IN A HUE OF BLUE, IF THE SUN WAS TO SHINE ON THE ICE AND SNOW.
THEY COULD THEN DECORATE THEIR UNIT THE WAY THEY WANTED AND ACCORDING TO THEIR WORK OR LIFE STYLE. SHE HAD A SMALL PORTABLE TEP MASTER TO EXERCISE AND STILL ENOUGH ROOM FOR A YOGA MAT ON THE FLOOR OR DANCING; SHE HAD ADDED OPEN BOOK SHELVES AND CLOSED ONE AS STORAGE ALONG THE WALLS FOR ALL HER BELONGINGS; AND A DESK FOR HER COMPUTER AND STATIONARY ACCESSORIES; THE WALL FOUNTAIN WAS ADDED WITH A BASIN AND A GLASS WALL WHERE THE WATER WAS RUNNING DOWN ONLY PLACED AGAINST THE WALL CLOSE TO A POWER AREA TO RUN THE FILTER & PUMP, AND SO MOVABLE …
She had lots of indoor plants she really cared for and named them, and of course her green house for food, on one book shelf. She also had an extra single cot bed as a sofa, and if her daughter was visiting and stayed overnight, it was also an extra bed; and her favorite rocking chair and foot stool to relax.
Her bathroom was simple and she liked it this way; other quarters she had visited, when she had downsized, because her daughter moved on her own with her husband, from the quarters they had when she lived with her, were more modern and luxurious; but she liked the feel of this one; it was on the second floor and so the highest floor and the view was quite lovely from the window to the right, where she could see far ahead to the frosted land and ice with snow … all white … and the building across the indoor court wrapped around to one side to the left, and she could the windows light on and not feel alone.

JADE ATE HER OMELET, THINKING WHAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO TODAY; SHE WANTED TO SEE HER DAUGHTER. SHE BROUGHT HER COFFEE TO HER DESK AFTER SHE WAS DONE EATING, AND OPENED THE SCREEN TOUCHING THE press pad for it, after few seconds, she got authenticated and the voice said “Good morning Ms Jade” in a joyful manner; she had selected the mood of course that she liked and a female voice, more like a friend, daughter or mother; She looked if she had any messages and seen none and left a message for Amethyst her daughter to find later, closed the screen after replying “You too ELGA” to the voice saying to her “Have a great day Ms Jade” in a joyful tone again.

Chapter 2
Pine, Joseph’s dog, came to wake him up in his excited attitude as always; waging his tail and placing his big nose on the bed beside his pillow waiting patiently that he wakes up; Joseph opened his eyes to a pair of eyes starting at him and a huge nose and smiled; still it was nice to be loved so much, even if for a new bowl of food.
He smiled and extended his arm and hand to pet Pine head still half asleep “Ok Pine, I will wake up “ he said and just rested his head on the pillow again.
After getting out of bed, followed by Pine that ran to his bowl of food, he washed Pine’s bowl and then filled it with his food from the bag provided. After setting the coffee machine provided, he poured himself a cup of coffee and walked to look at the window; It was still dark and the lights across his building on the building aisle that wrapped around to right side and faced his window on the second and top floor; on the left side he could see far away the snow and ice and the sky; dark or sunny. Kept the curtains closed until he could be sunny but noticed in secret that the window facing him had light pouring through the side of the curtains; someone was awake too … he smiled inside his heart and left better not to feel alone and patted Pine on the head that seemed to have understood his friend.
“What are we going to do today ?” he said to Pine who wag his tail happily
“Ok , maybe you want to go the dog park ? “ and smiling he pat him on the head and got organised to go and bring Pine there

Walking to the dog park was closed to his quarters, the reason why he lived on that side of the building with the other dog owners.
The cart to bring Pine was a platform wheel cart with a net around it like a tent, smaller one for smaller dogs, the dog had to sit on it in the tent to go anywhere out of their quarters.
They arrive at the dog area and after going through the sliding doors, they were at the reception and could let their dog out of the tent with a leash on a body harness and park their cart foldable to a sideways spot like for bikes wheels.
The place was huge like a gym, and decorated like a tropical forest, with huge trees with birds, a plash area for the dogs, and artificial grass everyhwhere; easy to wash and replace for maintenance and over a grill type flooring to let the water through when washed with a ose.
Further was path to walk around the whole gym lke in a park, with a fish pond and a tiny bridge and going through trees with benches and bags dispensers and bin disposals for this everywhere.
At the guest area, there was a snack desk and dog owners could take a coffee and snack with them for the time here.
A fenced in wood area on one corner was also available to throw a ball and run without the leash on the harness.
Pine was delighted to bring his pet parent Joseph everyday here for their walk and play. Then he would sleep nicely at home while Joseph work, after having play plentifully.

Chapter 3
Amethyst and Hans her husband were having breakfast; their quarters had a closed bedroom. Amethyst, Jade’s daughter, lived in the centre part of the building, on the 6th floor & top floor.
The quarters were more spacious for couples and the area set for family facing the back opposite of Jade’s window ; a huge building area, attached to the other building.
The back of the building was for couple only without children, and their windows faced the same direction as Jade’s and Joseph’s. Amethyst and Hans , hopig to have kids one day but not wanting to move then , had selected a bigger quarter with a separate bedroom for themselves and a bigger open concept main area.
This side of the building was facing the mountains. The view from the window offered white ills, and the wind was not as strong from the direct blow on her mother’s side.
This area offered not only the option of bigger quarters , but also a beautiful park to bring the kids to play, and a path to stroll with the stroller around a huge fish pound with ducks, trees with birds, squirrels and racoons; a sand and water park with climbing area, and benches to sit.
Everyone was allow to come to this park also, not just parents, but had to be child friendly of course.
Amethyst and her husband enjoyed going even without children for now, and just walk and grab a snack and tea and sit by the lake watching the ducks and squirrels.
They were bringing bread and always found a mother and children to share with them some bread slices so they could also feed the ducks.
“What do you feel like doing today Amy ?” Hans asked Amethyst
“What if we were to go to the park for a walk “ she said
“That is good … I was thinking about it “ he added sftly to her “ Get ready , we will grab a snack there ‘’
She got up and went to talk to her birds Rose & Gold “Hi Rose, Hi Gold !” she said with a giggly voice “You can’t come with us … but maybe I have a surprise for you . “ She took a salt rock, specially made for birds and placed it in their bird’s home. “This is your favorite …”
As she talked to them Hans came beside her and gave her a kiss on the cheek and said to them “ Hi both! We are going for a while me and your mom …” and he placed his hand in the birds home and Rose came on it with Gold that follow and perched themselves on his hand
“I have to learn how to do this ‘’ Amethyst said laughing
The birds started to sing
“You have a gift with birds “ Amethyst said and added “I will be ready in a minute “
“Ok darling …” then turning to the birds ‘’ me and mom we will have a baby soon … but don’t tell her I told you … ‘’ he said like a secret to them , but loud enough to make sure Amethyst hears him. She smiled at him and went to get ready for their walk .

Chapter 4
The bell rang and doors secured on their places. From inside all you could hear was a soft bell sound and the click of the door that got locked.
Jade went to check her door and indeed it was locked.
She checked the small screen besides it and read the message from AI ELGA.
“Dear citizens: We are proceeding to a routine population count: Please have your hand and finger tips on the board of your quarters doors, wherever you are at this moment ; please have all human present of all ages to do so as instructed and wait for the green signal.”
Jade did as instructed and placed her both hands and fingers tips on the screen board by her door and waited that the light turn green.
“Please enter if any more humans are present for the print. Missing prints will have to be seen in person.”
She selected the prompt for self only humans present .
“Please make same for each non human present and identify specie first.” Elga prompted
Jade went to get Opal her cat and placed her both front paws on the screen after selecting the species ‘cat’ : then waited for the screen to get green. Aquatic species were scanned instead, by a basin scanner, and Elga was making reading on her own. Elder or disabled that couldn’t come to the door, were offered a portable board for messages and prints scanning.
“Thank you for your cooperation … Ms Jade … from unit A99. We will contact you if there is any problems “ and the screen closed.
This took only few minutes and was performed every month or so for the whole population. Jade felt secure by this system they had in place.
Jade brought back Opal in her arms to the seat in the living room by her computer and placed a big kiss on her head “you did this very well ! “ she said to Opal

Hans and Amethyst were out the door going for their walk , when the rang. They heard the door locking.
“Oh no! What we will do now ?!” Amethyst said
They came back to their quarters door and it didn’t opened or scanned
The board outside the door indicated
“ Dear citizens; We are proceeding to a routine population count; Please have your hand and finger tips on the board of your quarters doors, wherever you are at this moment ; please have all human present of all ages to do so as instructed and wait for the green signal .”
Hans pressed the red dot for manually talk to AI Elga when malfunction happened. A human voice came to a speakerphone. “ Please explain what is the matter”
“We were leaving and had just left our quarters when the bell rang and now we are locked out “ Hans said

“Please enter as usual, I will lift the lock for a moment and you follow the instructions inside “ The voice said
They did got scanned as usual and entered their quarters. “ Thanks for humans that can still come to help sometimes ! “ Amethyst said
They had their finger read on the board; first Hans did, and entered there was 1 more human present for print scan. Then Amethyst did as instructed also and entered 2 humans presents for print scan only.
Then they went to go get Rose & Gold and placed their little paws on the scanner, after entering the specie bird.
“Thank you for your cooperation … Mr Hans and Ms Amethyst … from unit D65. We will contact you if there is any problem” and the screen closed.
“You did so well ! “ Amethyst said to Rose and then to Gold holding one on her finger with her little fingers claw around it tightly … Hans was doing the same holding Gold on his finger.
They brought them back to their little bird home but they flew away to go perch on the top of the rod instead.
“Now we can go for our walk … “ Hans said with a arm around Amethyst back to make her follow him .

Joseph and Pine were walking in the dog park when the bell rang.
They went to the reception snack desk and asked what it was about. The attendant showed them the message from Elga
“Dear citizens; We are proceeding to a routine population count; Please have your hand and finger tips on the board of your quarters doors, wherever you are at this moment; please have all human present of all ages to do so as instructed and wait for the green signal.”
“You will have to do this here as the message instructs”
The snack desk attendant said to him and the other guests
He started the follow the prompt first and then entered , 6 more human present for print scan. He let Joseph follow the prompt and then the other 5 person present at the park did so. Then they select species dog and they placed their dog front paws on the board; And each dogs parents did so.
The small dog could be left and the bigger one could stand on their rear legs touch the board since it wa specially made height adjustable from a button to raise the counter or lower it.
“Thank you for your cooperation … Attendant of the Dog Park M Scymon and all guests and pet friends … from unit Dog Park B11D. We will contact you if there is any problems”
And the screen closed
They were all busy at petting their little friends and them barking waging their tails, jumping excited, as if this was play time; and their pet parents to started some greetings and presenting their little friends by names .
